foundation: Relationship Grant Recipients

In June, the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Directors approved the award of thirteen Relationship Grants for the 2016-2017 academic year.  These grants, which commence on September 1, 2016, were awarded in Boston, Hartford, New York, Providence, Washington, DC, London and Orange County. Fourth year grant recipient, LIFEbeat is a UK charity providing transformational learning experiences for teenagers. The grant will provide this by supporting group mentoring and summer camps.

 

 THOMPSON ISLAND OUTWARD BOUND

This long-time grant recipient will use the 2016-2017 grant to support its “Connections” education program for Boston public school students.

Developed in collaboration with the National Park Service, Connections enhances academic learning and social competence by challenging students to learn in new ways through in-school classroom activities revolving around field experiences on Thompson Island.

 

 ARTS & BUSINESS COUNCIL OF GREATER BOSTON/VLA

Long-time grant recipient will use grant to continue Brown Rudnick Holiday Art Contest & Teen Art Law program in Boston public schools and, to continue for second year, the Corporate Art Lending Program where public school student art is loaned to businesses.

A grantee for the seventh consecutive year, this organization will use the grant to support its Maritime Apprentice Program which serves an older, high-risk population in Boston through work and education programs. In March of 2015, this program was transitioned to College Bound Dorchester.

This third time grant recipient will use funds for educating about and connecting disadvantaged youth to the arts.

 

 THE MARK TWAIN HOUSE & MUSEUM

This fifth-year grant recipient will use grant funds to continue a pilot summer reading and writing program based on “Huck Finn” for 10th graders as part of a six-week summer learning academy at the museum for students from the Hartford Capital Preparatory Magnet School.

Third time grantee will use funds to support a portion of the Saturday Academy of Law, a program offered to disadvantaged, high-achieving 9th grade students from Santa Ana, CA school district.  Our grant (and volunteer work) would provide coordination and support for education about the law, and support for UCI law student led "pro bono fair". 

 

 THE NEW YORK CITY URBAN DEBATE LEAGUE

As a seventh-year grantee, this organization will use the 2016-2017 grant to support its award-winning debate team, now expanding city wide. Brown Rudnick provides pro bono counsel in support of this expansion.

 

 READY TO LEARN PROVIDENCE/PROVIDENCE PLAN

The grant will continue support for this long-time grant recipient, specifically for its successful early learning program which works with libraries, head start programs and family day care centers throughout the city to ensure that young children arrive at school healthy and ready to learn. Grant funds provide essential matching dollars to secure federal AmeriCorps volunteers.

Brown Rudnick provides general counsel services to the Providence Plan on a pro bono basis.

  

 UNITED STATES CAPITOL HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The grant will provide a seventh year of support for historical and educational programming in Washington, D.C. middle schools which connects in-class teaching about the Constitution with the student “We the People Constitution Tour” of the nation’s Capitol. Additionally, the grant will fund the Brown Rudnick created “Constitutional Challenge” essay contest for students who took the tour.

 

CENTURY HIGH SCHOOL

The grant will provide a second year of support for The Brown Rudnik Higher Education Achievement Project to serve all Century high schools students regardless of grade-level and incorporate participation in post graduate planning at the very start of high school.
