Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Supports Arts Education; Sends Washington DC First-Grade Class to the Theater

Boston, MA, June 11, 2012 – The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from Brown Rudnick LLP, has awarded a Community Grant to the DC Prep Charter School to support an arts education program for first graders. The school will use grant dollars to purchase tickets to a Theatreworks Company Production of “Nate the Great” in Fairfax, Virginia.

Shannon Donnelly, DC Prep Charter School first grade teacher and grant applicant, said, “Our first graders have been engrossed in learning about the story elements of fiction this year. We are launching a program on plays, and the field trip to the theater will enhance the students’ learning experience, while offsetting the portion that parents would need to pay.”

Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., said, “We are pleased to support the DC Prep Charter School’s arts education program. This initiative is in keeping with the Foundation’s mission because the arts program addresses the need for more involvement of the arts and experiential learning in urban education in Washington, DC.”

Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, Providence, New York or Washington DC within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month. The grant applications and an explanation of the program can be found at www.brownrudnickcenter.com/foundation/communitygrant.asp.
