Brown Rudnick Receives 2012 Excellence in Pro Bono Award for Creating First-of-Its-Kind Center for the Public Interest

Boston, MA, May 10, 2012 – Brown Rudnick, an AmLaw 200 firm with offices in the US and Europe, announced that it has received the 2012 Excellence in Pro Bono award, an annual award from Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly and the Massachusetts Bar Association that honors outstanding individuals, firms and their contributions to the legal profession. The Firm and its unique Center for the Public Interest are being honored for changing the way law firms address social justice and philanthropy by creating the legal industry’s first-ever director-led entity dedicated to integrating and  managing a firm’s pro bono legal representation, Foundation charitable giving and community service. The Center’s Executive Director Al Wallis accepted the award during the awards celebration on May 10th, 2012 at the Copley Fairmont Hotel in Boston.

Since inception several decades ago, Brown Rudnick has sought to promote the public interest through pro bono work and community service.  The Firm expanded its commitment in the spring of 2001 with the creation and endowment of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation and the opening of the Brown Rudnick Center for the Public Interest.  Through the Foundation's grant program, the Firm targets charitable giving to enhance urban educational opportunities and programs for children and adults in cities where the Firm has offices.  The Center enables Brown Rudnick to increase the impact of its public interest efforts through blending pro bono representation, community service and charitable giving in support of selected non-profit organizations in those communities.
