Boston, MA, September 5, 2014 – The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from the law firm of Brown Rudnick LLP, awarded a Community Grant to Let’s Get Ready (LGR) to purchase calculators for students participating in LGR’s ten-week college access program in Providence, Rhode Island. Students will use the calculators during the 2014 school year to practice and take the SAT exam, and will continue to use them when they enter college.
“The purpose of LGR’s college access and success programs is to give all students in Providence the opportunity to succeed and reach their greatest potential, regardless of their financial status,” said Lindsey Ferris, LGR Development Manager and grant applicant. “We are grateful for the Community Grant, which will provide calculators for our Providence students for the entire 2014 calendar year as they prepare for college.”
According to Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., “We are delighted to be the sole sponsor of this LGR project and to provide calculators for the nearly 100 students in the Providence access program for the entire year. We are also happy to support a program such as LGR’s where approximately 93% of participating students attend college directly from high school.”
Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, London, Orange County, Providence, New York, or Washington DC within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month. The grant applications and an explanation of the program can be found at here.
