Boston, MA, August 9, 2016 – The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from the law firm of Brown Rudnick LLP, has awarded a Community Grant to CREC’s Ana Grace Academy of the Arts Elementary School in Avon, CT for the development of a band program. The funds will support Hartford students who are attending the Hartford regional magnet school in Avon.
Justin Bank, the school’s Theme Coach and grant applicant, said, “As an arts magnet school, we provide our students from both Hartford and 42 suburban communities with a quality academic education that is rich in arts instruction. Being part of a band creates the cooperative, positive, confidence-building environments our students need. We are committed to building a band program for our students, and we are grateful that the Foundation grant is helping to defray some of the costs.”
Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp, said, “There are clear correlations between music education and the benefits to academic performance. Music works both the mathematical and analytical side of the brain, as well as the creative, interpretive side, which fosters well-balanced students and community citizens. We are delighted to support the band program at the CREC Ana Grace Academy of the Arts Elementary School.”
Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, London, Orange County, Providence, New York, or Washington DC within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month.
