Boston, MA, January 10, 2019 – The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from the law firm of Brown Rudnick LLP, has awarded a Community Grant to DC International Public Charter School in Washington, DC. The grant will help purchase print and digital books to expand the school library to benefit middle and high school students.
Mary Thomas, DC International Public Charter School’s Librarian and grant applicant, said, “Our library department provides students with engaging texts that serve to create culturally competent secondary students. Currently, our library has limited resources available to assist students. Thanks to the Brown Rudnick Community Grant, students will have access to digital and print books in a multitude of genres that will enhance their ability to learn and become active members of a sustainable world. Student choice, which is proven to increase attitudes and motivation towards reading, will guide the selection for a majority of the books we purchase with the grant funding.”
Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp. said, “School libraries can be a hub of learning and a favorite spot for many students. They can be a safe haven for all students to think, create, share and grow, and we are pleased to help DC International Public Charter School expand their library resources for their students.”
Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, London, Orange County, Providence, New York, or Washington, DC within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month.
