Boston, MA, September 20, 2018 – The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from the law firm of Brown Rudnick LLP, has awarded a Community Grant to 826 Boston, a nonprofit youth writing and publishing organization that provides students ages 6-18 with free writing and tutoring programs in Boston, MA. The grant will help cover the setup costs associated with furnishing an on-site, student-focused writing center in partnership with Boston International Newcomers Academy (BINcA).
Kristin Russo, 12th grade English Language Arts/English as a Second Language teacher and grant applicant said, “Underserved students are disproportionately held back by lack of access to writing assistance. Having the support of trained tutors and 826 Boston staff in a dedicated and writing-focused space within our school will change the way I teach writing and open up a universe of possibilities for my students. We are thankful for the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation’s support in establishing our new writing center.”
Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp. said, “We understand that strong writing skills are fundamental to children’s future success. We are delighted to help BINcA set up a writing center that will further develop students’ written communication skills and help them succeed in school and in life.”
Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, London, Orange County, Providence, New York, or Washington, DC within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month. The grant applications and an explanation of the program can be found at http://www.brownrudnickcenter.com/foundation/community-grant.
