Boston, MA, September 19, 2018 – The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from the law firm of Brown Rudnick LLP, has awarded a Community Grant to Roca, an outcomes-driven organization serving nearly 700 high-risk, justice-system involved young men annually in the Greater Boston area. The grant will help Roca’s site in Boston, which serves 230 young men, to purchase supplies for a new mobile version of its library of textbooks, GED prep materials, fiction and non-fiction books, and unique learning activities. In 2016, the Foundation awarded a similar grant to Roca to help upgrade the organization’s GED/HiSET educational programming.
Taciane Santos, Program Manager for Roca Boston and grant applicant, said, “We are grateful for the continued support of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation. Thanks to the Community Grant, we are able to further expand and add mobile capabilities to our educational program to support high-risk males, age 17-24, and encourage them to enter the workforce.”
Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp, said, “Roca’s mission is to disrupt the cycle of incarceration and poverty by helping young people transform their lives. Effective education is a critical piece of breaking this cycle, and we are happy to support Roca’s admirable educational program again this year.”
Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, London, Orange County, Providence, New York, or Washington DC within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month.
