Boston, MA, May 3, 2018 – The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from the law firm of Brown Rudnick LLP, has awarded a Community Grant to The Riverview School in Queens, New York. The grant will help provide much-needed resources for the school’s counseling department, which serves K-12 students with various special needs. Specifically, The Riverview School will purchase bouncy balls, bean bags, stopwatches, stress balls, soccer balls, basketballs, footballs, toys block, puzzles, art supplies and emotional books to be used in counseling sessions.
Manuela Guimaraes, Riverview School psychologist and grant applicant, said, “Our counseling department provides students with behavior intervention and support, as well as coping and social skills support. Currently, our counselors have limited resources available in their offices to assist students. Thanks to the Brown Rudnick Community Grant, counselors will have access to resources that enable a multi-sensory approach to learning that will specifically address the needs of students.”
Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp. said, “We are pleased to support The Riverview School. By providing access to important tools used in teaching and counseling sessions, we are helping their students reach their academic and social potential.”
Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, London, Orange County, Providence, New York, or Washington, DC within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month.
