Boston, MA, June 12, 2017 – The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from the law firm of Brown Rudnick LLP, has awarded a Community Grant to the Children’s Friend Carter Street Center in Providence, RI. The grant will support classroom healthy food centers and an outdoor garden for the children in the Head Start program to help students learn about healthy eating.
Lea Kabbas, a Head Start teacher at Children’s Friend and grant applicant, said, “Children should be encouraged to try foods that they would normally avoid and to develop healthy eating habits. I have integrated nutrition lessons into the curriculum for the students at Children’s Friend, and with this grant, I will be able to expand the program. We hope this project will bring the benefits of healthy eating to life for the children in all of our classrooms at the Carter Street Center.”
Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp, said, “Creating healthy food centers and a garden is an experiential way for students to learn about nutrition and healthy eating. We are pleased to award a Community Grant to Children’s Friend and support them with this effort.”
Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, London, Orange County, Providence, New York, or Washington DC within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month. The grant applications and an explanation of the program can be found at http://www.brownrudnickcenter.com/foundation/community-grant.
