Boston, MA, September 27, 2018 – The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from the law firm of Brown Rudnick LLP, has awarded a Community Grant to University Prep Charter High School in the Bronx, NY. Specifically, the grant dollars will be used to purchase 20 TI-84 graphing calculators to be used for math class.
Edward Hou, University Prep Charter High School math teacher and grant applicant said, “In order to properly learn higher level mathematics, students should have a proper graphing calculator. Due to limited resources and funds, we are not able to provide a calculator to every student. With help from the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation, we’ll have enough for our students to share and properly prepare for their upcoming Algebra I Regents exam.”
Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp. said, “We recognize that building strong mathematics skills is a stepping stone to students’ future academic and personal success. We are pleased to supplement the school’s supply of graphing calculators to enhance the learning process and help students succeed.”
Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, London, Orange County, Providence, New York, or Washington, DC within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month. The grant applications and an explanation of the program can be found at http://www.brownrudnickcenter.com/foundation/community-grant.
