Boston, MA, April 27, 2018 – The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from the law firm of Brown Rudnick LLP, has awarded a Community Grant to Carl G. Lauro Elementary School in Providence, Rhode Island. The grant will cover the costs to organize a school talent show for 3rd – 5th graders, including theater rental and the purchase of invitations, flyers, decorations and awards. City Year Providence, a nonprofit organization that partners with under-resourced, inner-city schools across the country, is coordinating the talent show at Carl G. Lauro Elementary School.
Nicole Bathalon, Impact Manager at City Year Providence and grant applicant, said, “As AmeriCorps members and educators, we recognize that students need ways to express themselves and their creativity. The talent show will offer an opportunity for students to explore their passions in the performing and visual arts, while helping to strengthen the school community and promote positive school culture.”
Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp. said, “Involving young people in art and culture can have a significant impact on their development, both within and outside of the classroom. We are pleased to support the talent show at Carl G. Lauro Elementary School, so students can showcase their talents and express themselves creatively.”
Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, London, Orange County, Providence, New York, or Washington DC within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month. The grant applications and an explanation of the program can be found at http://www.brownrudnickcenter.com/foundation/community-grant.
