Boston, MA, January 13, 2014 – The Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity established by attorneys from the law firm of Brown Rudnick LLP, awarded a Community Grant to the Latin American Montessori Bilingual Public Charter School (LAMB) in Washington, DC. LAMB will use the grant to purchase drums and xylophones for its classroom-based music education program.
According to LAMB music teacher and grant applicant, Kate Vetter Cain, “With the addition of these instruments, we can provide comprehensive music instruction that will support learning in music, critical thinking, and general development, including self-esteem and motivation for 320 children.”
Commenting on the grant, Al Wallis, Executive Director of the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation Corp., said, “We are pleased to support LAMB’s music education program at a time when many schools are eliminating arts programs in favor of more standardized test preparation and academics. It is vital to support music and arts education because it teaches discipline, cooperation, and social skills, which are all important life skills.”
Created to support front-line educators who often do not have a voice in funding decisions, the Community Grants subsidize small, concrete projects, which will improve inner-city education within Boston, Hartford, London, Providence, New York, or Washington DC within the coming year. The Foundation will generally consider grant applications monthly and award grants in an amount totaling not more than $2000 in any one month. The grant applications and an explanation of the program can be found here.
